A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Amer Zhar is an Arab-American who is here to break down stereotypes and build understanding through his hilarious stand-up comedy act. He gives the audience a look at life through the prism of being an Arab-American, which for many is a different perspective. Things such as filling out the census form can be an interesting situation when you don’t have a box to check. “We’re Not White,” the name of Amer’s routine, highlights his culture and what makes them different while also helping to destigmatize misconceptions about Arab-Americans. Even something as simple as a scarf can mean different things to different people, and Amer takes the audience on a journey of knowledge and understanding while also making them laugh along the way.
