Mikhaella Norwood, spoken word artist and CEO of Freelife Productions, delivered an inspirational poem about Detroit’s hallowed past and promising future. Her poem, spoken in front of thousands at the 2018 TEDx Detroit, starts out about the city being the destination for millions of people because of its prosperous opportunities. The poem eventually arrives at Detroit’s downfall, the famous riots, and the despair that followed: loss of jobs, respect, and hope. But then she brings us to the present and how the city has been rejuvenated. Now that the world has its eyes on Detroit once again, she lets the audience feel it is our time to prove once and for all that Detroit never went anywhere but is stronger than ever before.
