As you’ve already read, the Detroit Opera House will be performing “The Nutcracker” this month. I know what you might be thinking – “Yeah, yeah, the Christmas ballet again. Can’t they come up with something new?” Luckily for you, the answer is YES, they can and did.
Enter “The Hip Hop Nutcracker.” The show replaces the pointe moves with contemporary costumes and dances, but preserves the beloved story and Tchaikovsky’s iconic musical score. Originating in New York, “The Hip Hop Nutcracker” brings the city’s modern, urban feeling to the classic tale of Clara and the Land of Sweets.
